Introduction |
|
| |
CAPNI is a local Christian humanitarian organization. |
|
| |
Was established and registered officially in Dohuk in 1994, in which a new era in North Iraq had began where people started to return to their villages and refresh their lives. Despite the fact that this is very positive and encouraging point, it is not an easy mission and in fact is a burden upon our community, because of the economic hardship situation of the country after years of wars and international embargo and the domestic embargo imposed by the central government of Iraq against the northern part of country. Under such circumstances, CAPNI started to carry out its main objective that is to help the Assyrian Christian people of north Iraq to live safely and prosperously in their homeland. CAPNI strongly believes in the principal of convincing the people to stay in their homeland through offering them the necessary means to do so. CAPNI is an independent Christian humanitarian organization and has no affiliation with any other secular organization. Its program is to reach and meet the needs of various Christian denominations. In the region of north Iraq, its goal is to help the Christian communities of: CAPNI had discussed the situation with local Christian Church leaders and prominent individuals and agreed to carry out miscellaneous programs aimed to help the Christian Assyrian people to enable them to return and dwell in their own villages. We, particularly, have assigned the following programs: Immediate relief plan, such as financial help offered on the spot to or on a regular basis (In the early years of CAPNIs work and prior to the implementation of UN resolution 986, the 'Oil For Food'-resolution) Rebuilt of churches, schools, training centers, youth centers and community halls. Developing programs such as supplement of sheep, farming tools and machines. Education and teaching, such as sponsoring university students, publishing Syriac books and children stories, financial support for Syriac schools and teachers, Stationary supplement for the primary schools pupils, etc.. Pastoral programs for the local churches.
And other programs. |

What are CAPNI’s intension and programs for next terms? |
|
| |
|
|
| |
A - For the villages: As a significant number of families had returned to their villages and started to rebuild their life and produce their food, CAPNI programs are to concentrate on development programs, such as: Roofing the houses with slabs to help the houses resist the heavy rains and snow (Currently most of the roofs are of mud and clay). Setting up the healthy drinking water projects that keep the drinking water in closed tanks and pipes to protect them from any reasons and sources of diseases. Building health care centers in the villages. Improving the irrigation canals. Supplying the families with sheep.
B - For the cities and big towns: To concentrate on social programs to take care of the widows, orphans and handicaps. To concentrate on youth centers and training courses. To concentrate on children education.
The goals of these programs are to help the reconciliation process that the Iraqi community needs to recover from the decades of internal conflicts and wars created and strengthen by the policies of the current government. Iraqi community, as whole, needs our help to build the new era based on the principles of love, peace, brotherhood and tolerance. |

More points about CAPNI |
|
| |
|
|
| |
- How the projects are funded and carried out?
CAPNI adopted the following procedure regarding this subject:- A committee plans proposals and priorities for different stages through consultation with the capable people of our community. The basis and goals of these proposals have to meet the needs of our people, regardless of their ideological, social or political backgrounds.
We believe that humanitarian aid should be given to all Christian people, without any restrictions due denominational or ideological identity of the needy. This is our mission, and we strongly clinch to it.
- The details and estimated costs of the proposed projects are thereafter submitted to various churches and humanitarian organizations in Europe through our representative in Germany, Rev. Emanuel Youkhana.
- Keep those organizations updated on later developments.
- In case if any donor decided to fund and cover the costs of one of CAPNI programs, then funds will be transferred to homeland where CAPNI starts carrying out the sponsored proposal.
It is important to mention here that CAPNI don't ask for the whole budget of the proposal (construction projects) to be sent in one time. Indeed we suggest having multi stages (two or three) payments of the budget parallel with the progressive report of the project. - Other organizations are kept informed whenever a donator adopts any proposal to avoid having same proposal sponsored by more than one organization.
- The donators will accordingly know before they make any contribution of the destiny of their donation.
As donations are made CAPNI will confirm the receipt of the funds, and send back signed documents and reports as well as photos of the projects periodically. - As the proposals are funded by different sources, CAPNI used to announce and declare clearly to our people in homeland the sources of the donated funds. This policy is not adopted to gain the trust of our people, but rather to encourage them morally that they are receiving support from their brethren and friends.
- Some specific proposals, such as sponsoring needy university students and needy families in regular basis program, CAPNI establishes a direct contact between the donator and the student in homeland. The photos and data of the students are passed to their sponsors in Diaspora, the exchange of personal letters, etc.
In such cases CAPNI's role is only to bridge this humanitarian relation.
- Being an independent organization, CAPNI committee makes decisions freely in carrying out the programs regardless of the political and denominational differences among the Assyrian community.
- Is CAPNI affiliated with any Assyrian church and/or political party?
No. CAPNI is an independent organization, and has very good relations with different churches. CAPNI pastoral programs covered ALL Christian churches in North Iraq, namely: Chaldean Catholic Church, Church Of The East and Armenian Church. The same is said for political stand, as CAPNI is not affiliated with ANY political party. CAPNI humanitarian decision is based ONLY on the necessity and the need to a specific aid or project.

Dear sisters and brothers, |
|

CAPNI realizes that with the limited financial resources that it had, is unable to cover ALL the needs of ALL Christian Assyrian people in N. Iraq in pastoral, education, reconstruction, development, relief, etc. But CAPNI hopes that with its participation can reduce the suffer and the needs. Hence, CAPNI wishes to widen its programs in the homeland and its relations and contacts in Diaspora. CAPNI admits that the abilities of our friends in Diaspora differs in ability and/or field of interest, hence CAPNI with its wide range program offers the chance for every single participation to reduce the suffer of our people. Starting with sponsoring a university student to complete his study, a proposal that could be carried by a single person or family, to reconstruction programs that need coordination and support of organizations and churches. Our people needs in homeland are with wide range. Our people and friends in Diaspora are willing to help.Every person, organization, church, etc. has his role and position. Let us carry this responsibility. GOD bless you. CAPNI commette Dohuk Iraq 15 January 2003 |
